From the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

As we are now in Week 4 of our academic year, it is our hope that the children are now into well-established home routines that support a positive mindset and engaged learning at school.

Thank you to our parent community for a definite improvement in both arriving at school on time and student attendance. Teachers are able to start their lessons punctually and the students are enjoying the extra play before school each morning.  Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school—and about themselves. It is important to start building this habit in Reception, so children learn right away that being at school on time, every day, is important. Such disciplined habits will help children do well now and later in life.

From the Deputy Principal

What a great chance to meet new parents and catch up with our other families last week at the ‘Meet and Greet’ evening. It was also wonderful to see those parents who came to the Cybersafety evening last Monday. I heard the presentation 3 times and each time it varied according to the audience. I am always flabbergasted to hear about the changes that are occurring so rapidly from year to year, and I work closely with IT every day. Did you know about ‘vaults’ that have various app icons that look like every day apps such as a calculator? This workshop showed dozens that then hide the accounts of children from teachers and parents so they can do secret social media chats. It is becoming more and more difficult to keep children safe in a world where social media is the norm and we as adults need to constantly keep up to date with the latest emerging trends. The belief that our children may not be touched is so similar to the notion that children have where they feel invincible. Our responsibility is to be informed.

Recycle Batteries Header.png

Do you have any of these batteries at home and are not sure how to recycle  -  AA, AAA, C, D and 9V batteries (both rechargeable and non-rechargeable)?

Many of these batteries contain toxic metals such as cadmium, mercury and lead. Others contain valuable materials like magnesium and zinc. Used rechargeable batteries are a hazardous waste and should not be placed in the garbage bin. This includes batteries in laptops, mobile phones, power tools and cameras.

Saint David's Parish School is encouraging students and families to bring any of these batteries to school to be recycled safely.

Please drop off at the Front Office.
