FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Learning Conversations

Thank you for attending our Learning Conversations this week. Several of our classes reported high attendance by their families and the teachers were appreciative of the strong support you offered. It was not so long ago that the child’s academic and social growth was a conversation between the teacher and the child’s parents. The child played no part in the process. Whilst I acknowledge that in primary schools the developmental age of the child can limit the effectiveness of too much involvement, Learning Journeys are tailor made for children even as young as five to take ownership of their learning. I also have no doubt that with the ownership comes a large degree of pride.

From the Deputy Principal

A warm hello to all!

Year 1S will present our assembly tomorrow and I extend an invitation to come along and see what capable and confident students we have at Saint David’s in our Junior Primary. I know the class has been busy preparing for it and I’m sure there will be a few surprises with their learning so far this year.

What is the Sports Vouchers program?

The Sports Vouchers program is a Government of South Australia initiative administered by the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing. The program provides an opportunity for primary school aged children from Reception to Year 7 to receive up to a $100 discount on sports or dance membership/registration fees. The purpose is to increase the number of children playing organised sport or participating in dance activities by reducing cost as a barrier.

From 1 January 2019 several changes have been made to the program, including the vouchers being increased from $50 to $100 and all forms of dance are now eligible. Learn more about changes to the 2019 program, click here.

Edmund Rice Secondary Scholarships

For students entering Year 7 and Year 8

St Paul’s College is built on the tradition of Edmund Ignatius Rice who founded the Christian Brothers and the Presentation Sisters.

Each year, St Paul’s College offers Edmund Rice Scholarships to boys who embrace our core values of Faith, Relationships, Excellence and Diversity and whose family’s financial circumstances may deter them from applying to attend St Paul’s College.

The scholarships cover all fees for secondary education (Year 7 to Year 12) including school camps and retreats. They do not cover the cost of uniforms or laptops.

To be eligible, students must be about to enter Year 7 or Year 8. Assessment is based on the student’s contribution to his current school community, his involvement with his faith community, his academic results and an evaluation of his family’s financial situation.

Applications can be made by phoning the Business Manager on 8266 0622. Applications close 30 June 2019.
