Holy Week

Last week we acknowledged the most important time in the Church’s Year – Holy Week.  It is the most significant week in the Church calendar as we pause to remember the Easter story: the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Thank you to Deb Nye, our APRIM and the staff and students who presented parts of the story to our whole school community last week.

I hope you had a chance over the Easter long weekend, to not only have a break from the busyness of family and work life, but also to celebrate the true meaning of Easter by attending some of our parish celebrations.

Sports Day

Thank you to the many families who supported their children at our annual Sports Day. It was a wonderful day with reasonably good weather, good food and lots of good sports. Congratulations goes to Haines Red House for winning both the Chants and also the Sports Day Shield.

Sincere thanks to Travis Henderson for organising a great day and to April Crisanti who energetically trained and led the warm up to begin the games. Thank you also to all the volunteers who helped assist staff with their classes.  Events such as Sports Day reflect the wonderful community that exists at Saint David’s.

Final Results: Ist Haines (Red) 9340; 2nd Stevens (Blue) 8030; 3rd MacKillop (Green) 7860 and 4th DeMazenod (Gold) 6870

Winter Uniform

All students are expected to wear their winter uniform during Term 2 and 3. A two week change over period at the beginning of Term 2, will be allowed due to the unpredictable weather at this time of the year; by Week 3 (May 14th) all students are expected to be in full winter uniform. All new winter uniform supplies are to be purchased from our supplier Devon. Our relationships with your children are very important, so please support our uniform policy, which includes suitable haircuts, so your child is not in the position of having to explain why they are wearing the wrong uniform without a valid reason.

Congratulations Peta

Sincere congratulations to Peta Jordan-Payne on the successful completion of a Diploma of Leadership and Management. Peta will be attending a liturgy and presentation hosted by Catholic Education South Australia this week to acknowledge her achievement. Well Done Peta!

Parents and Friends

Thank you to Katie Harvey, Mel Jones, Kylie Galvin and all the volunteers who processed and delivered our Hot Cross Buns Orders in time for Good Friday’s tradition of eating of these goodies. All of the members of our P & F work hard to ensure the fundraisers are well advertised and as a result are well supported by our community.

Farewell

With some sadness we farewell two members of staff from our school community at the end of term, Linda Clune and Brenda Grubb. Linda recently began part time tutoring students with dyslexia and has decided this is where her passion lies.  We wish her the very best as she continues to work with children in a primary setting.

Brenda, unable to take on a full time position on this class has decided to spend more time with her young daughter, and will return to full time teaching in the future. We wish Brenda the very best and thank her for the wonderful relationships she builds with students.

I thank both these ladies for their commitment to teaching and to Saint David’s Parish school and wish them the very best with their new endeavours. We are currently in the final stages of employing a fulltime replacement teacher for the Year 6 class.

As the end of term draws near I wish to thank the parents and caregivers, your support and commitment to Saint David’s school is truly appreciated. Finally, congratulations to all students on their achievements this term.

I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable break. We are a strong school community because of the importance we place on our relationships with families. I thank you for your trust and confidence in creating the optimum learning environment, that is Saint David’s.

Regards
