From the Principal

Dear Parents,

I am very fortunate to live in a street lined with jacaranda trees in full bloom. Each year when this occurs, I am reminded that my favourite church season Advent is fast approaching. I try and wait until Advent commences before putting up our Christmas tree at home. This was a little more difficult when our sons were excited young boys, but now putting up the tree is an adult job, with our sons enjoying the final product, although still with an eye for what is placed under the tree for Christmas Day. And they still need reminding that this is all about someone’s birthday – Jesus.

We are certainly preparing for significant events each week now as our school year is quickly drawing to a close. Please regularly check the ‘SkoolBag’ app where updates are posted.

From the Deputy Principal / APRIM

Dear Saint David’s families,

Duty of Care

As a school we have a duty of care to everyone on site. This means from the beginning of the day when the school opens at 8:15am until 3:15pm when the last duty after school finishes. With this comes a huge responsibility to provide all measures to try to ensure the safety of your children. We take this responsibility seriously. We have two staff members on duty both before and after school.

Please do not drop off your children until the gates open promptly at 8:15am. Prior to this before school care is open at 7:15am. There have been increasing numbers of students being dropped off between 7:45 and 8:15am. This means they are not being cared for by you, their parents before school opens. Please book them into before school care. After school many children congregate at the top of the ramp/stairs that overlook the carpark. This is not an area that has a staff member caring for your child. Please direct your children to the Milne Road crossing area where the teacher on duty can visibly see you child or to Vizard Road where staff are on duty so that their safety is not compromised. If parking in the carpark then please come into the school to greet your child when the bell goes. After school the carpark is not a drive through pick up zone. That is on Milne Road between the crossing and the roundabout on Elizabeth Street.  We would really like your support to keep your child(ren) safe (especially as the business of the end of year escalates).

7 Captain Header.png

Year 7 has a been a great year and being School Captains has been a huge privilege. Being a School Captain involves setting a good example for others and trying your best. It is about respecting your peers and teachers as well as respecting the environment and learning. You need to have a positive attitude and be supportive.

Saint David's is a great primary school. It has helped us to be who we are. Saint David's has taught us about respect and accepting everyone. We are going off to Gleeson College next year and we will miss Saint David's because of the great community spirit. We have loved the school since we both started in Reception.

As Year 7 leaders, the students in 7K and 7Z have had a great year. Our Term 1 Camp at El Shaddai was lots of fun and gave us the chance to bond and reflect on our roles as leaders in 2018.

Sports Day then arrived with our Sport Captains leading the way and encouraging the younger students to try their best.

A chance to raise money and support the Mary MacKillop Today foundation was a strong incentive when making and selling items at the annual Mary MacKillop Fete Day – it was lots of fun too!

Transition visits this term have given us the chance to prepare for an exciting new time in our lives.

2018 has been full of surprises, and it has been great fun. I encourage others to nominate for the role of becoming a Captain at Saint David's and we wish them the very best.

Molly 7K & Kane 7Z

Week 8 we will here from the Year 6 Captains!

NETBALL AND BASKETBALL 2019

If any students have forgotten to return their 'Expression of Interest' forms please come and see me as soon as possible as team nominations are now in progress.

Thank you to those who have already contacted me and to those coaches who are continuing with a team for next year.

We will need coaches for the new Netball and Basketball teams beginning next year. If you have returned a form for your child to play, please consider coaching their team, we can't nominate at the Recreation Centres without a coach.

Many thanks,

Ann

BOY'S AND GIRL'S BANKSIA CUP 5 A-SIDE SOCCER CARNIVAL

On Friday 16 November, 20 students from Years 6 & 7 represented Saint David's Parish School in the Banksia International annual 5-a-side Soccer Carnival.

We nominated three teams and each team played 11 games, with two of our three teams winning all their matches. The third team were also undefeated but drew one of their games.

The finals consisted of Saint David's (Division 2) Boys winning the Banksia Cup boy's champion's trophy and the Saint David's (Division 1) Girls winning the team champion's trophy.

The Saint David's Division 1 Boys team came third overall. A successful day and thank you to all our students involved for representing our school with pride and great sportsmanship.

A special thank you to Judith for helping out on the day and a special mention to Anna Stanley for all her organisation for the final sporting carnival of the year.
