Happy Easter!
A warm welcome back to Term 2!
Staff Professional Learning
Staff have spent our pupil free day last Monday in Professional Learning unpacking the new requirements of the NCCD for 2019, which is the annual National Consistent Collection of Data for students with a disability, for half the day. Teachers gather evidence in the way students are accessing their learning and as a school team we make necessary adjustments to ensure students can access education on the same basis as their peers. The website is extensive but is very comprehensive around understanding requirements, providing case studies to support effective teacher judgements and decisions and has an excellent section for parents and caregivers to keep them informed. Generally there are 4 broad categories of disability: Physical, Cognitive, Sensory and Social/Emotional and within this 4 levels of adjustments being made: A Quality Teacher Differentiated Program (no Individual Education Plan , IEP, needed); Supplementary (has an IEP), Substantial (IEP) and Extensive (generally for students in highly specialised facilities).
To investigate this website specifically around parents, guardians and carers please go to
https://www.nccd.edu.au
Go to the drop down box on ‘Resources and Tools’ to ‘parents, guardians and carers’
After lunch we further developed our skills with Explicit Direct Instruction in English and Mathematics.
It was a very fruitful day developing our knowledge around this and thank you to Tess Corcoran, Elena Lanzilli and Caroline O’Halloran who have immense capacity to lead staff in Professional Learning.
