From the Principal

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Children,

Welcome back to Term 2! I hope you enjoyed a lovely break with your family. With Easter occurring in the middle of the school holidays, I am sure many families took advantage of the timing to enjoy some rest and relaxation. I hope you also had a chance to take part in the Holy Week celebrations in the Parish.

At the end of last term, the students were taught the significance of Holy Week in the Church calendar and on Wednesday the school gathered to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ at the Parish Mass. This also gave us a chance to formally meet and welcome back our new Parish Priest Fr James Jeyachandran.

Happy Easter!

A warm welcome back to Term 2!

Staff Professional Learning

Staff have spent our pupil free day last Monday in Professional Learning unpacking the new requirements of the NCCD for 2019, which is the annual National Consistent Collection of Data for students with a disability, for half the day. Teachers gather evidence in the way students are accessing their learning and as a school team we make necessary adjustments to ensure students can access education on the same basis as their peers. The website is extensive but is very comprehensive around understanding requirements, providing case studies to support effective teacher judgements and decisions and has an excellent section for parents and caregivers to keep them informed. Generally there are 4 broad categories of disability: Physical, Cognitive, Sensory and Social/Emotional and within this 4 levels of adjustments being made: A Quality Teacher Differentiated Program (no Individual Education Plan , IEP, needed); Supplementary (has an IEP), Substantial (IEP) and Extensive (generally for students in highly specialised facilities).

To investigate this website specifically around parents, guardians and carers please go to

https://www.nccd.edu.au

Go to the drop  down box on ‘Resources and Tools’ to ‘parents, guardians and carers’

After lunch we further developed our skills with Explicit Direct Instruction in English and Mathematics.

It was a very fruitful day developing our knowledge around this and thank you to Tess Corcoran, Elena Lanzilli and Caroline O’Halloran who have immense capacity to lead staff in Professional Learning.

Christ, the Light of the world is risen.

Christ, the light of the world is among us today and forever.

Alleluia.

Welcome back for Term 2. I hope you and your family had a blessed Easter. Throughout this Easter Season we are reminded to be mindful of the joy and wonder of the Resurrection. On Wednesday 8 May we celebrated this significant event with our Whole School Easter Mass. At this celebration students and staff met and welcomed Father James to our Saint David’s School Community.

Futsal (Indoor Soccer)

The Futsal Winter Season began on Monday evening. Our four teams got off to a great start thanks to the wonderful support of our parent coaches. Good luck for the remainder of the season. We have two spots still available for players, one on the 11 & under team & one on the 7 & under team. Games are played on Monday evenings, no training sessions are scheduled at this stage. If you are interested, please email me as soon as possible.

Netball

The Saint David's Sapphire 11 & under Netball team urgently require two more players. Some experience would be preferable. Games are played on Friday evenings at Turramurra Recreation Centre and training sessions are held at school on Tuesdays. If you are interested, please email me as soon as possible.

Thank you to all our After School Sport coaches who do a wonderful job and to all our supporters who come to the games each week.

FEDERAL ELECTION - CATHOLIC EDUCATION'S KEY ELECTION OBJECTIVES

Catholic schools are a vital part of Australia’s education landscape; from humble beginnings almost 200 years ago, Catholic Education is now the nation’s largest provider of education outside the government.

The key national issues for Catholic Education at the upcoming federal election are:

  • increased capital funding
  • more resources for early childhood education
