Supporting Students’ Needs

As the Inclusive Coordinator at Saint David’s I work closely with our Behaviour Education and Special Education consultants, teachers, ESOs and our executive leaders to meet children’s needs in the educational setting. Many discussions are had around adjustments that need to be made for individuals to enable them to access the curriculum, build social and emotional competencies and learn self-regulation. Many children meet academic and social goals quickly and capably, and others need explicit learning, modelling and repetition to grasp skills to have them become embedded into their everyday practices. Teachers talk to previous teachers (at Saint David’s, other schools and kindies) to find out as much as they can about each student in their class. They also spend the first few weeks of the school year gathering data around children in their new educational setting for this year, looking at socialisation, routines, and new year level challenges. Some children transition into the new year smoothly and others need a little support as they grapple with the changing demands. Please make a time to meet with your teacher and/or me if you have concerns and if you are renewing the NDIS funding. If we can work together in a multidisciplinary approach between parents, school and any agencies or specialists to have similar goals for your child, so as to be on the same page, it becomes less confusing for a child.

Parents and Friends Committee

The P&F is one great way to become a part of Saint David’s community. There are many worthwhile events that provide just a little bit of fun and another dimension to school life that the P&F oversee. With the graduation of 2 year levels in 2018, many of the P&F members who have had active participation in the school community for many years have now moved onto secondary schools. These wonderful people have done so much, in fact the term these days is ‘value added’ for our students and the community over the years. They have also developed life-long friends.  The P&F have had posters on classroom doors and have had call outs to the community for new members. You do not have to commit to coming to every meeting, you do not have to be involved in every fun-(d)-raiser, in fact you can tailor your involvement to fit your availability. Please consider becoming a P&F member, we need you!

Spirit that glistens in the light, bless this community that shares so generously with their hands and their hearts.
