Catholic Swimming Carnival

Last Tuesday 13 March, Saint David’s students competed in the Catholic swimming carnival at the Uni SA pool at Magill. It has been several years since our school has competed, so it was wonderful to be back in the pool, competing against the other Catholic primary schools.

I would like to congratulate our team of twelve students on their team spirit and enthusiasm. A huge thank you to Kim Gilchrist for her support of the team and Anna Stanley for the behind the scenes work, registering our school. Thank you to parents Julia Knuckey and James Simpson for time keeping and to the parents for transporting and supporting the squad. I was very proud of our determined little team.  We came a creditable 7th spot out of 8 schools and sent out a clear message to all present; ‘We’re back!’ Bring on 2020.

Bullying No Way!

Last Friday was the national day of action against bullying. The theme this year – ‘Bullying No Way!’ ‘Take action every day’ was explored in classes throughout the week. Lessons focused on strategies to build positive relationships, understanding individual rights and responsibilities and specific ways to respond to bullying behaviour. Certainly, the message of valuing difference and the unique qualities of every individual will continue to be emphasised in our lessons over the next few weeks.

Building Update

There continued to be a lot of activity on our building site over the last two weeks. Some of the main works that have been happening on site and programmed for next week include ongoing footing excavations with the second pour of concrete to the deep piers scheduled for Thursday. (The first concrete pour was last Saturday.) Plumbing pipework for toilet and sink drainage is being placed and covered and reinforcing steel and plastic fixed in preparation for the main concrete pours.

Farewell Di

A few weeks ago, I met with Di Child’s who after much discernment, has decided to reduce her work commitments and finish up at Saint David’s school after being the school counsellor for seven years.  Di wants to spend more time with her daughter in Canada and hopefully have some ‘Di time”.

Thank you Di for your support of our students and we wish you the very best. A new counsellor will be appointed to start at the end of the term. They will also counsel on Thursdays each week.

Sport’s Day

Our Sports Day is fast approaching and for many students it is one of the key highlights for the year. The day is more than just about sport: it is about participating, competing, encouraging, persevering and being part of a House Team that works together.

Many hours of planning have gone into this event and I wish to thank Kim Gilchrist, ably supported by Karen Mutton for ensuring our whole school event on Balkana Oval is one the students will remember.

I look forward to seeing many of you there.

Regards,

Leanne
